is there a fuse or relay that would prevent the computer from sending information to the code readers
I know it has to recycle but how long (miles) does that take and what other cause could stop the information

There is fuse's for the DLC connector, computer, and control modules.
Do a google ''GM drive cycle'' xmiles city driving + xmiles highway driving = Drive cycle

what year is your truck?

Which modules are you interested in? ecm, tcm, bcm, sir, abs...etc.

some code readers and only read generic powertrain codes (identified by p0XXX) and not manufacturer specific codes or any module codes outside the powertrain.

usually you would get a U-code if a module is not communicating or not powered. A code that a reader most likely can't read.

some of the new vehicles have over 30 modules hence the upgrading of factory scan tools as the old factory tools can handle all the modules.

The only fuse if blown will keep a scanner from powering up.
Does your scanner power up?

Is it just a code reader or OBD11 scanner or full scanner.
What brand or kind of scanner do you have?

How may systems does it read out?
Engine, body transmission ABS, sir and exc?

Any codes or check lights yellow or red or orange?

on most newer gm's cigarrette lighter also powers dlc(data link connector) there is a certain drive pattern to reset readiness monitors. gas should be at 40-60%,start after sitting overnight, let warm up to full operating temp.,drive @ 50mph for 3 minutes, let off gas and coast down to 45mph,gradually back to 50-55mph and repeat three times, back to 55mph for 5 min. then come to stop and sit for 3 min. this procedure should reset all. if not repeat process.

Did it power up or just not show any codes?
The diagnostic connector has to have 12 volt power to it to run a scanner or code reader.

If no power up start with checking all fuses for 12 volt power on both sides.

Hi , anyone know what I can do about my 02 zr2 it won't climb a hill or go over 20 mph & only runs @ idle. I did a tune up plugs , wires, dist & cap. Coil , air & fuel filter Maf range control because that code came up on my comp readout . temp sensor & also pulled off 02 sensor on y pipe , but it got no louder w/o it. I am puzzled, the resonater makes a noise , but the backpressure on the tailpipe seems strong. Any help would be much appreciated.
