Need advice on 2.2

Got my 19yr old a 98 Cavalier with the 2.2 for Christmass, that did run good before he got his hands on it. The boy had it a hole week before he said that he slid on some ice, and ditched it.
What ever he hit, pushed the bottom of the rad support back into the motor, and the bottom rad hose got pinched and there went all his fluid.
Instead of letting somebody know about it, he desided to run it home dry with out antifreeze in it, and it started to run rough he said, and it shut off on him half way home.
I had it towed home, and today tried to get it started, it turns over kind of rough, but it wont start not even with starting fluid, seams to make a thump thump thump sound up threw the intake system like its out of time, i also laid a wire with one of the plugs in it, on the exhaust manifold to see if i had spark or not, and (YEP) got good spark.
Took a compression test, and cylinders 1,3,4 have 75psi, and cylinder 2 has only 35psi, i even ran the test again and it was the same.
I guess the motors toast now, and what i would like to know is if it would be worth rebuilding, or should i get another 2.2 to replace it?

Not worth rebuilding, running it that hot probably destroyed the valves and head, could have damaged the block. There's tons of good engines out of wrecked cars in salvage yards. He should be able to pick one up for less than $500, there'd be more than that in just the head work, if it was repairable.
