hI I have a 02 Ford Taurus SES with single ohc. I had the chirping noise and failed pollution . The code came up for bad camshaft sensor. Seeing as in was the middle of winter I tried to just replaced the sensor hoping that would solve it. Engine light went out but chirping got louder than ever. Engine light came back on after a few days. I now realise I have to change both the sensor and sychronizer. They sell they part online with the alignment tool for about 55 bucks. Question is. Can I mark everything where it aligns and match new one to that. Not all that sure how to do top dead center of 1st valve. If I did just mark it would I still use the alignment tool or would I only use it if I go the top dead center route. I am capable of following any kind of directions and very rarely have evr brought my car to a mechanic. I usually just read up on it and tackle it. Any advice on top dead center would be helpful or if i can just mark everything that would be great. Still cold outside in nj. Want to make this job as quick as possible. It already in hard enough place to reach as is. Once again thank you for any suggestions you guys have.

To properly replace and repair the syncronizer, place on top dead center and align sensor with picture that will come with tool. If you do not have the picture, let us know and we can post it for you.

Google "30-s2600" . Should tell you all you need to know about the sensor driver replacement. I bought my Motorcraft part at an independent shop for $99, followed the instructions and replaced it myself without buying the alignment tool.
