I would like to convert my headlights to HID but am not sure of all that it entails. I have seen a few HID conversion kits which were the wiring harness' and HID lights. Is this all i need or do i also need new headlight covers/lenses? Has anyone done this who can tell me a good name to buy and where they got it? There are a few differnt ones that i have seen.

I did one of the e-bay hi/lo kits and frankly the lo just scatters the light annoying oncoming drivers MORE. You can put a HID bulb in with the appropriate wiring and it is something of an upgrade once you aim it down enough to not upset oncoming traffic BUT in the end the stock lenses suck and scatter the light too much.

I would love to do a projector retrofit but that would be like $400 after new lenses and such.

The kits that just change the bulb with ballasts are a lot cheaper but you still have the crappy stock distribution just putting a lot more light out there EVERYWHERE instead of just where you want it.

thanks for ur help. Yes the stock lenses do absolutely suck. I did notice that the wiring harness' and lights from ebay were relatively cheap so maybe i will go with one of those. Should i get a certain one? i noticed there were different heat ratings like 5600k 8000k 10000k and so on. is any one better than the next?

The higher you go in the Kelvin color temp scale, the bluer the light. 5600 is really as high as anyone should go - the others are decidedly blue and that may attract the attention of the local cops.

Oh wow i will make sure i dont get anything higher than 5600 then. Me and the cops already dont get along. Thanks for the warning.

You might want to see if you can still get some of the 1994-96 Caprice/Impala export glass headlamp units. The prisms are a lot more refined.

The T-84s were all out of stock a LONG time ago and today the rare used ones still go for BIG money

Eh well the question is related so I figured i'd just jump on this. I was looking to convert my 89 to HID and was wondering if there would be any of that "scattering" of the light problem? Also I see a lot of "single beam" kits then i see some "hi/lo" and other ways of describing the functions so what i want to know is should there be a kit with replacements for the high and low or would the single beam be good enough for an 89?
