There are no silver bullets when it comes to improving fuel mileage. I have tried headers, cat-back exhaust, free flowing air cleaner systems and computer programmers, and while my truck ran and sounded better, mileage was virtually the same. How you drive makes more difference than all the things mentioned above. I know there will be some that will say they picked up 3 mpg by installing a throttle body spacer, but if your looking for return on investment based solely on mpg improvements, save your money.

this and the other vehicles with these engines and pcm's are designed for maximum MPG...
what you can do is get the bigger tires with the low profile..they have a lower rolling resistance ...problem is in cold snow it would be not a good idea to operate with these tires...
rims are available and you can get much more info on this by searching...
the use of synthetic oils/fluids in the transmission and engine will increase your MPG ...I got 1.5 MPG increase with hyway driving...
my truck ext cab 5.3L 4X4 gets 19+ during the summer about 17MPG
now in the cold...hyway ..the use of injector cleaner techron is also a way to keep the fuel flow correct...I use this every few thousand miles.
buying aftermarket gimmicks is a waste of money..
what is you MPG hyway...?

'04's probably getting to where it could use new O2 sensors, they get slow and less accurate as they age. 100k miles is about as long as you can expect one to last.
I tried a product called Energy Release (http://www.energyrelease.com/index.asp), it seemed to work... I gained almost 4 MPG highway adding it to engine oil and power steering fluid. But as with any product you expect to gain gas mileage from, you subconsciously drive it easier. So did I gain any MPGs? I don't know. I installed a supercharger on my car very shortly after adding it, so there's no way I can ever measure whether or not it worked (at least not with my current vehicles). It's not very much and it doesn't hurt anything, if you try it, let us know if it works long-term, after you start driving it normal again.
