2005 Buick lacrosse. Recently my wife accidently hit the phone button on the rearview mirror, since then every time she puts the key in and takes it out it tells her "phone unavailable". Does anyone know if there is a way to shut this thing off? I've read that it could be something electrical in the onstar box that is very expensive to fix. We don't use onstar or the phone so I could maybe unplug the wiring harness if I knew where the main control box is located. Any input would be helpfull. Thanks folks!

I wonder if Tiger woods had OnStar!

No! Don't unplug it. OnStar has the crash sensor which will notify OnStar in the event of an impact. If you're not able to summon help, they will send emergency aid to you. (Locates you via Sattalite) This feature could save your life & those of Family members!!
Use the OnStar button on the mirror to talk to a OnStar Tec. They will be able to correct the problem.

He said he doesn't use Onstar. If you are not paying for the service, Onstar could care less if you are bleeding to death in a crumpled car somewhere. A useless and very expensive service in my opinion.]

94 check your owners manual, I seem to recall a fuse for Onstar. The box for my Lucerne is in the trunk. Sorry can't check the Lacrosse and the manual...wife has the car out shopping.

Thanks for the input, I'll check the book. I didn't think the book would get into specifics about the location of the unit, maybe pulling the fuse will help. I wouldn't think that would trigger any response from the onstar people(i hope). Fuses do blow sometimes.

You can still get onstar personnel by pushing the button. That's how I activated mine for the first time! They took my credit card & related info., thank you.

PS: How much is your life & the lives of your Family worth to you??!

I BET they took your credit card. :p And since you wish to make it personal, my family is worth as much to me as yours may be to you, however I do not believe in tossing money away for some useless (IMHO) gimmick. Some people will "buy' into anything, so they don't have to rely on their own skills and common sense. Never needed OnSar for forty years, "ain't gonnna" start now. Even when it was free on my new GMs, never used it once.

To each his own. But here in Ohio we're currently dealing with icy roads & in 1 case, a Woman would possibly still be alive if she'd had onstar. She slid down into a ravine in the pre-dawn. But it wasn't until after sun-up that a motorist spotted her vehicle against a tree & called for help. But she was dead when they arrived. Was unconscious from the impact & bled to death. This is why I am more at ease when someone else uses my onstar equipped vehicle!

I had the same problem. Got really old hearing that. I pulled a fuse on the passenger side. I don't recall which fuse it was. It stopped the onstar message, and didn't cause any problems. Hope this will helps. If you need i could look and see which fuse it was.

Maybe we can sell 1st Alert to Lincoln, it can signal a 1st response (silver alert), when the air bag is triggered.
