I just won the bid for a Fujimi 1:24 scale kit of a Mercedes Benz Black Star SL600. It is a really cool and beautiful looking convertible on the box art. Can anyone tell me about this kit? Is it a curbside or does it have the twelve cylinder engine? I'm already thinking about resin casting it!

Resin casting the kit or an engine??
It's a seriously average to below-average curbside kit with no engine. Nothing special at all.
Tamiya did a 500 SL that blows this one away in detail. Revell did a 6 cylinder 300 SL version that has more detail. Fujimi's SL kit is an older one and you can't let beautiful boxart illustrations fool you. Perhaps next time if you aren't familiar with a certain model to ask ahead of time if it is really worth bidding on.
Tamiya did a couple S class V12 kits (600 SEC, 600 SEC AMG, 600 SEL & AMG). Very nice engine in them. That's where to start if you want to do a kitbash w/engine.

In the future, I will consult before being compulsive. I was thinking of casting the body, I guess that would be a big waste of silicone! I have a LEE brand 600SEL with an engine, is it any good?

Good gravy, that Lee kit is awful! It was a terrible ripoff of the Tamiya kit.
I don't know why you want to cast the body; it's not like the Fujimi kit is that rare or desirable. It's neat...but I certainly hope it's not one of their kits that has resin body panels/flares.

...also, the Tamiya Mercedes kits were re-issued recently and not exactly hard to get hold of.

Yeah, the Fujimi SL bodies ok are, but not entirely accurate. The Revell SL has the wrong chassis! It's a W126 S-class from the 80s.

I agree with bob, the tamiya one is much better. Also fitment is great on it. As for resin casting it, don't waste your silicone on a kit like that.
What you want to resin cast is a revell corrado or revell(tamiya 850i).

I have the Koenig Blackstar kit and I would say it is below average. Maybe 25 parts total. Wheels are very small. I got it cus the box art was awesome lol.

Damn box art sells me every time, even though the kit inside could be terrible.

I built one, and it turned out not bad. not too many modifications needed. its a pretty solid kit(structure wise) it won't break after falling off a desk(accidentally tested).
If its in your collection, the build it. just don't waste too much time over detailing it.

I picked up that same kit while I was visiting my grandparents in Tennessee. I was less than impressed, however, once you throw some nice wheels and a decent paint job, detail the interior nicely, the kit is a really nice looking curbside. What you could do with it, and I probably will, is make a mustang/mercedes conversion. Use the Monogram lowrider (fox body) mustang and convert it to a mercedes. People do this in real life and it's pretty cool.
