Ignition Gremlins

Happy New Year good people. Perhaps you can help me with this?

2003 Limited with about 80K miles. Wife adores this car, me not so much due to Gremlins.

Long had trouble with dash light flicker, intermittent loss of cruise control, and air bag lights.
THEN- just the other day...
Turn Ignition, no clicks, crank or buzzes. Noted the following: with key in Run:
No wipers, no radio, Dash trip computer said it was -40 in a 50 degree garage.
Turning key three times for trouble codes, did not work.
Noted with key out the steering wheel did not lock.

Sounds like ignition switch to me, any comments or helpful hints.

Identical non starting issue occured last night on my 01 Sebring, even to the -40 on the trip computer display. I hope you get a solution soon as I need to piggy back it... As of now, it looks like i will be towing it to a shop in the morning, will post if i get something...

PLEASE keep me posted. Its going to be a couple weeks before I can tow the Sebring off this mountain I live on. Did you have problems like the air bag lights, loss of power ports, or dask light dimming?

Forgot to specify, 2001 Sebring Sedan LXI, just over 150,000 miles. Other things I noted on my car and this sudden electrical death, in addition to your findings, no turn signals or gauge readings with the key in run. Have checked every fuse with a multi-meter for continuity, not just visual.
The instrumentation lighting is a daily occurrence; invariably I will drive half of my drive home with no dash lighting. The other things like air bags and cruise control have been issue-less. I do have a bit of trouble with the power door locks, either key fob or switch, they always unlock, not always lock. Some fiddling with the switch, like 20 cycles will usually get them locked.

OK... so I had my car taken to a mechanic. It took him about half the day to find the culprit. It was a fusible link (a fuse-like wire) under the fuse box in the engine compartment. I was not present for the work, so I can not be too specific as to the amperage or exact wire location. If you too have a burnt out fusible link, it should be fairly apparent as it would be a burnt out wire looking thing. I was charged $60.00. Good luck on yours...

OK, so what made the fusible link fry? That's the real question. My wife loves this car, but with only 87K on it, it has way more problems then anything else I've owned.:crying:

Your tip put me in the right place. I checked the under hood fuses and found the 20Amp Starter/Fuel fuse burnt. Again the big question is why. Since I can drive it I will take to my garage man next Tuesday.
I would bet dollar to donuts that it is a common problem. With all the other Gremlins seemingly unrelated, and OH YES a blown cigarette lighter fuse, I am thinking bad ground. Good luck and keep us posted if yo figure out what killed teh Fuseable link. Maybe we can at least be of service to other Sebring owners if not each other.
