front differential

my parents have a 98 s10 blazer 4x4
when in 4x4 front tires seem to lock up and it don't sound good
while you are driving
also we took out pass side half shaft and noticed that out put shaft
is slopy it flops up and down with out end of cv in tube
is this normal
or is there a bearing out
