Do I have regular schocks or do I have struts on my car. 2000 regal 3800 engine.

All four are McPherson struts.

With the correct tools (strut coil spring compressor is mandatory, powerful impact wrench for the steering knuckle bolts makes it much easier), some mechanical aptitude, and a repair manual to be safe you should be able to do it. You should get a wheel alignment somewhere afterwards too.

Depending on your mileage or age of the car you should replace the upper strut mounts when doing a strut job. Especially the front end upper strut mounts which has the load bearing.

I actually just did my rears last week. I purchased the complete strut assembly. I've never done rear struts before, and it took me about 45 minutes per side. I imagine if you purchase just the struts, then your going to need more time to tear the old set apart, and re-assemble the new ones.
