Porting your throttle body

Has anyone every successfully ported their 97-98 GTP throttle body? These throttle bodies incorporated the MAF channel in the throttle body and in later year modified the MAF with its own air channel. I wanted to remove this said channel for better air flow as well as removing the throttle body screen but leaving the diameter the same, however I'm worried about an irregular idle and etc. Has anyone had any experience with this before? I have an extra throttle body to mess around with but I at least want to be heading in the right direction.

The screen you speak of is a "flow straightener" for the MAF. It probably won't work as well since it is more apt to be influenced by turbulence in the flow stream. This isn't to say it won't work. I had a large hole punched in the one on my car (guessing due to prior repair activity) and it ran seemingly without flaw however at ~$20 I fixed it as soon as I could.
I question what gains there are to be made except at maximum flow (max ERPM) but there's not much to hurt with a backup part on hand. If you want to run better than max ERPM I'd be into some stiffer valve springs right quick.

Have you seen ZZP offers ported throttle body's?
I agree with crazyhorst, the MAF screen is better left alone. I took mine out and the trans had issues with torque converter lockup indecision. Reinstalling the MAF screen fixed my issue.

Yeah I saw ZZPs but lately I've lost a lot of trust with ZZP (just bought their EGR delete to keep my new ported SC clean and it set off a code, despite them saying it wouldn't, all their gasket problems, and cost.) I installed my new throttle body thats shiny and new (and painted black to match the ported SC). My throttle response is a lot better and I modified the screen too.
Think of the numbers on a clock. Draw a line from 4 to 8 and cut along this line. No rough idle and no problems that I've seen so far since the MAF air channel is still screened yet the throttle response is quite noticeable. I also knife edged the throttle plate and blended the screws.
A friend of mine has a stage 2 TB from ZZP but its for a 99 GTP. I ask ZZP if its compatible and they said the MAF tables would have to be modified. I asked if I could send my PCM in to get the MAF table added to their ZZP PCM v1 that I purchased last year and they said it would cost $110+ not just $10. And since I remembered that the PCM they sent me last year required a case learn for the crank position sensor (I have a 97 and it shouldn't be needed) and was half eaten by battery acid I sent in mine to get flashed but was delayed for two weeks. :disappoin

Who from ZZP told you deleteing the EGR would not trip a code? Thats totally wrong. You will need to delete a certain list of codes in your PCM. I had the list at one time...
And the MAF, ZZP probably mean that you will have to import MAF tables from a 99+ GTP. It really isn't that big of a deal, but ZZP is in it to make money too and I'd be willing to bet the way the economy is right now, they are hurting. I used to order from them every month or so, recently I havn't ordered from there in a while. I am sure a lot of other people are the same.
Your best bet would be to find someone in your area who has a tuner (hptuner or powertuner) and tell them what you need. They should be able to delete all the EGR codes, and import MAF tables for a 99+ GTP.

I have all the rear O2 codes deleted from my PCM, I still have a rear O2 sensor for looks, but I could just unplug it and it would not trip a code. The same thing would have to be done with your EGR in order to run the ZZP delete.

This is the mod I bought and they said it wouldn't set off a code. As for the scanner does anyone know about how much they should run. I thought about making the investment but I also was wondering if there is some wonder-scanner that scan ABS codes as well.

I dont know how they can say it wont trip an SES. Are you supposed to leave the EGR valve plugged in and just dangle it somewhere? Otherwise I also thought that the PCM monitors the function of the EGR valve through the MAP system.

I can't remember the code number but it was "insufficient EGR flow."

What do you mean by PM's? Are you referring to the MAP?...Its funny how I starting out the post about anyone porting their own TB and it turned to EGR support :tongue:
