97 Blazer Door Locking Problems

I have a 97 Blazer 4X4 S10. A few days ago the locking mechanisms went awry. I locked the doors using the door auto locking tab on the driver door panel. I checked all the doors and rear hatch and they were all locked. Later my wife went to retrieve an item from the Blazer and found all the locks unlocked. The locks were then found to be locking and unlocking at random on their own. This sounds like a faulty solenoid or other type of switch but I don't know. Has anyone encountered this before and what was done about it?
I also have a "broken" rear window wiper and don't know how to change this motor or the solenoid (?) switch for this either.
Looks like it ought to be a weekend job for a guy that would be cheaper than a shop.
Thoughts? Recommendations? Suggestions?

Can't help with the random locking/unlocking thing, but I just repaired my rear wiper...there's a great writeup here on how to get it removed Wiping my rear (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=512515&highlight=rear+wiper)...I also had the help of the Haynes manual (which sucks, but its better than nothing) I just took mine apart, and had to free up the shaft and gear mechanism, as it had frozen up with corrosion...works great now....
(Thinking about it, I should taken some pics and posted about how to disassemble the motor, but my hands were filthy...lol)

Good advice on the rear wiper! As far as the locks.... does the vehicle have an aftermarket alarm system or keyless entry system installed?

Old Master,
We purchased the vehicle used and have never had a keyless entry device. We lock and unlock the driver side or passenger side doors with a key and use the power door locking tab to unlock all other doors. The rear hatch has/had a feature that when you used the key to unlock the hatch/lift gate it would unlock all doors of the vehicle. Likewise, one could lock all doors in the same manner, with the key at the hatch/lift gate.
About two months ago, we locked the vehicle up with the key and the following morning all doors were unlocked. I checked the locks, relocked the doors, and waited and then the doors started cycling through lock and lock sequences, and finally settled on its own in unlocked mode.
Since then the rear hatch/lift gate lock will not allow me to unlock the hatch/lift gate. I can only do it from the driver side or passenger side door.
I am thinking it is an actuator of some sort, or a solenoid, but can't find a part at any website, or used parts store. It is my intention to stop by the Chevrolet dealership parts store this coming week and make inquiries.
I may not be calling the "thing" by the right name.
Thanks,
John

There's a switch in the hatch lock cylinder, like you mentioned, that locks/unlocks the doors. I suppose there's a possibility the wiring or switch is shorting out causing the locks to go haywire. If/when you stop by the dealer, ask the service advisor to check your RPO codes and see if the vehicle is equipped with keyless entry. If not, have him/her take a look under the dash for an aftermarket, (add on) system. That would be a far more likely reason for the locks to malfunction.
