Bronco gas tank issues

I am working on a 1985 Bronco for a friend, we just put a new gas tank in it. Now when you put gas in it the gas sprays back at you. The fill tube looks clear, and the hose that connects the filler tube and tank looks ok. What should I check next? Also the fuel guage only works intermitently.

have you stuck anything in fill hole to see if it's full? or could be clogged from tank to neck. only other thing i can think of is the float in tank. you may have to drop tank again.

Could be a faulty sending unit on the fuel tank. Still it shouldn't spit back at you upon a fill up. Check the return air device that comes into being upon a fill up.
