Miracle Needed

I know this is a ridiculously long shot, but is there any way to repair or conceal a crack in clear plastic?

The piece hasn't actually broken yet, but there's a very visible thin dark line right in the middle of my Speedster's windshield. Too much flexing from sanding and polishing will do that - the high price of nitpickiness.

I've already ordered a replacement part from HLJ, but their delivery time for spare parts can take forever. :1zhelp:

j/k sorry to hear that. People will certainly tell you to douse it in future/Klear etc etc but the bottom line is that you will probably not be able to do much to make the crack invisible.

Since you seem to be a bit of a perfectionist, that probably won't satisfy you.

I suggest - if you really don't want to wait for the replacement part - simply buy a new kit. You can pick one up for around 35$. When and if your spare part arrives, you can simple sell the kit on and have saved some time in the meantime :)

I was hoping you wouldn't notice.:redface: I saw that one coming all the way from Pasadena, home of today's world-renown (?) Rose Bowl Parade and (American) football game, where we are confined to our house for the duration. Yay team, blah blah.

Since you seem to be a bit of a perfectionist...More than a bit, actually. Not a useful trait, or one that's easy to live with, even in a modeler. Voltaire said "The perfect is the enemy of the good."

HLJ is pretty good about this stuff, so I think it's more a matter of "when."

I will take your advice, though.

Oh, and I do want to point out that the windshield does look WAY cool with the frame trimmed down. The problem has more to do with my sanding, priming and Alcladding it three times... in my quest for perfect smoothness, of course.

When I posted in your windshield thread I noticed the part in my kit had a cold seam running through it where the plastic from two different gates met without knitting together. So it probably wasn't your fault. Fujimi clear parts just break sometimes without warning.

I do appreciate your being supportive and all, but it was definitely my fault. :disappoin It's a hairline fracture, exactly the kind you get from bending a piece of plastic too many times. :shakehead
