I tried starting it yesterday and was stranded at the grocery store. I have a 2001 GLS coupe with the 3.4 liter V6. I turned the key to start it and the lights on the dash and radio would come on and the power windows would work but the engine did NOTHING. It did not even try to turn over. I also noticed that my keyless entry remote would not work sometimes. I had to have it towed to the dealer who wants me to pay $500 for a new starter when they did not even look at it or plug it into a computer. I really don't think it's the starter because it would be clicking when I try to start it right? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to AF.

Do you have the SECURITY light on or flashing?

You can get the dash lighting and accessories and still have an issue with the battery so best to get the battery and charging system (alternator) checked out first. Also, check the battery positive and negative cables and terminals.

The security light was on as well as the service vehicle soon or engine soon light.

Then you may a Passlock VATS issue. When the immobilizer activates it will prevent 12 volts from getting the the starter solenoid and cut off the fuel injection system. Try the key relearn per the owner's manual to see if the SECURITY light goes out. Also, have you checked out the battery just to be sure?
