engine stalled while driving on the open highway

Hi folks,

I was going down the highway with 60 mph on cruise control. Suddenly, out of the blue, the engine stalled. All the lights in the instrument panel came up for a second or so. Engine could be restarted immediately without any problem and I could continue my trip.
This happened the second time now.

I suspect the ignition lock... Any other ideas?

To start with, I would look for a loose connection somewhere throughout the ignition system or the fuel system. Your problem could be a tough one to solve.

Yeah... sorry! It's a 2006 F150 XLT 5.4 automatic 4x4. And the prev. owner has installed an aftermarket remote start thing that might contribute as well.

I was hoping that there is a known issue or something similar that could help...

Don't forget to check the fuel filter + fuel pressure.

Sounds more like a crank sensor or something along those lines. A bad fuel pump usually winds it's way down to oblivion before it will completely die. An instant shutdown is usually sensor related. You should probably have someone check to see if there are any codes. Autozone will do it for free, try your best not to take any advise from them though, the places are usually populated by the underinformed.

mine did that a few times.finally tracked it to the ground wire going to body on firewall.took it off cleaned it good not happend again for a year.Check all grounds

Something that intermittent may not produce a continuous memory error code but that's not to say it's not possible & right now you need all the clues you can gather. I'd look for a hot wire w/ damaged insulation & it doesn't have to be a large feed wire to momentarily stun the ECU or drop out the ignition. As mentioned, grounds are equally important, as circuits have to return to ground to continue function. If &/or when it happens again, temporary disconnection of the aftermarket remote to eliminate it from the equation would be a good idea. In fact checking the quality & integrity of it's electric integration would be the first thing I'd start with. After market installs should always be held suspect if you didn't do it yourself! There is a circuit involved that is concerned w/ enabling & keeping the Ignition live.

I know it's been a while... The dealer found the issue a while ago - the throttle body was the issue. Replaced and good.
