F-250 won't turn over. please help.

I went to start my 04 super duty 5.4 this morning and it made a loud clanging sound. it went away for a bit then it did it again so i shut the truck off. Now it wont even turn over and my guages are freaking out. Any ideas as to what might cause this?

could be a short somewhere which is triggerring the solanoid and screwing with your gauges.

could be a short somewhere which could be triggerring the solanoid, or a relay. gauges going crazy is usually electrical. it could be sending the starter drive back out while the truck is running.

I turned the crank back a bit with a breaker bar and then started it. but something was definately clanging in the motor, pretty sure it busted a rod. i took it to the dealer and since it was in a rollover a few weeks ago that caused it, insurance is gonna pay for a remanufactured motor replacement.
