98 elec window question=

1998 lumina(base). The drivers side electric window occasionally stops and starts,etc. It seems to be sticking or running on a bad track. Could it be the motor itself? What,s the most likely suspect?

Cannot diagnose this kind of problem over the computer. Needs to be done in person.

My '97's driver's window has gotten weird with age. When it stops, I hold the button down while slamming the door. That always gets it going again. I suspect the lift motor has a dead spot on the armature or something, because otherwise it moves quickly, not labored...

It seems to act up the most the day after a good rain. Any pattern to yours?

Anyway, all you could really do in order of complexity would be replace the cluster control, take the door apart and clean and lube any moving parts or guides, check wiring and ground while moving the door , inspect and clean the lift motor, and replace it if it still hangs up...

Driver's doors are sometimes when wiring fails in the flex conduit, since it's seen the most open/close cycles over the life of the car...but I really haven't seen a lot of that on modern cars...

My 99 lumina did the exact same thing.
Hit your control switch. You will notice on the driver's side that you will not hear a click like all the others. It is broken. If you push the button in the right spot, the window will work but the sweet spot will be lost after awhile.
Chevy dealer was $190, Junkyard was $50 but I went to a pick a part junkyard for 2 bucks to go. All the lumina control switch were gone. I went to some type of Chevy and it looked the same. I took out the old one and put this one and everything worked.
Except, I had to cut some of the plastic on the piece that it fits in and I had to use some plastic electrical ties to stop it from moving. But $2 was better than $190 without labor. It is not perfect but it works great.
