Engine Starts / Stalls

I have a 99 Dodge Durango I bought used. It runs great, with one exception.
At times, I start it - it starts right up - then stalls the moment I let off the gas. It is not set to idle too low, and it only happens occasionally. When it does, it's frustrating.
I have only gotten it to start by disconnecting the battery cable - waiting a few minutes - then reconnecting it.
Any ideas on what is going on with my Durango?

Have you ever gotten any check engine lights? If you are having to remove the power current, that would worry me that you have a problem with the electical system or your ECU. I would take it to the dealership. They can hook up their computers to and find out what is wrong.

Tina,
I get the same thing of my 99 Durango with a 5.9 engine about every 6 to 9 months. I have cleaned out the throttle body but it seems to recur without rhyme or reason.
What if anything ever fixed yours. I was thinking of replacing the IAC (idle air controller) at the rear of the throttle body if the problem becomes more frequent.
p.s. I have never had an associated check engine or other indication with this & it always starts after a few attempts. I reclean the throttle body to make myself feel better & it doesn't hurt. The last occurrence a couple of days ago was after I emptied a tank of gas treated with Lucas fuel cleaner.
