Low coolant warning ?

Our 97 PA had a leaking water pump by-pass elbow and after draining the radiator I had to shuffle my vehicles to get it into the shop. It ran a couple minutes to get it back in the shop and I expected to have some indication from the low coolant sensor but didn't get any. Searching for low coolant warning showed most of the posts are concerning a light coming on when the radiator is full and probably a bad sensor. I guess my question is where on the instrument panel should I be looking for the indicator? I also disconnected the sensor and turned the key on with no light. The DIC shows actuall coolant temp and not a text warning that the owners manual talks about. Could the sensor be checked with an Ohm meter while submerged in water or coolant? This problem could have contributed to the previous owner running out coolant on the inter-state and melting down the original engine. Thanks for the help.

Well I guess if I'd kept working with the sensor I would have answered my own question. Once I scrubbed the sensor I realized the end in the radiator is a somewhat clear plastic. I got a warning message in the DIC screen and went away once the radiator was refilled so all is good.
