4x4 Differential Fluid Change

My manual says to change the fluid every 50k. Was wondering what the deal is if I hardly ever use the truck in 4 wheel drive? I'll be changing the rear diff for sure as I'm approaching 60k with no hard driving and/or hauling. Thanks for any advice/info.

the recommended 4X4 fluid replacement of the drive train components is around 30,ooomi...

front rear diff. transfercase , and transmission...also fuel filter...

the components of the drive train cause the fluids to create acids that destroy the metals ,clutches seals....it's your call how much you want out of this vehicle...

I'm going on 10years no leaks or failures yet 125,ooomi...

Things still turn in the front diff when in 2wd.

Thanks for the info...I'll go ahead and change both the front and rear then....not sure where you got the info about the transmission fluid change though...my owners manual says every 100k for that, although I'll do it before it hits that number.

don't take my word for this issue..

do an internet search at this and all the other forums..you will find dexronIII that is in your transmission is causing damage to the internal parts because it is breaking down too soon..this is GM talking TSB , they had too many transmission warrantee expenses..

I would replace the filter and replace the fluid by complete removal of all the dexron III then install the dexronVI which is the replacement for dexron III...

most that do believe the owners manual have to repair the transmission after the 100,ooomi fluid change because debris in the system fouls the valves and the torque converter get damaged as well.

with the use of the dexronVI you will feel faster transmission shifting ..It will operate much better...

Well, the 04' suburban was about 10x more of a pain in the ass to change the diff fluid than my 00' tahoe. Anyway got'r done and put just over 3 qts of fluid in there. Was told that 3 qts is what she holds as there was a little bit of fluid coming out.

what was the problem with replacing compared to the 2000 Tahoe ?

how much metal debris on the diff cover Magnet ?
