I have a 1995 Chev Monte Carlo V6 3.1 L with 224,200 miles on it. It has a blown head-gasket. I am thinking about trading it for an 1997 Pontiac Grand am that has a Quad 4 (4-cylinder) engine that has 176,000. My question is which one has the better engine/is the better car? I have heard mixed reviews on the Quad 4......PLEASE ADVISE!!!!

With that kind of mileage, neither one is great. Both are well-worn and will need regular attention. IMO in the long run, the GA will probably be no cheaper to run.
At least with the Monte, you know what the rest of the car is like. It is a known quantity. But you probalby do not know about the GA and its repair/service history and issues.
Also, at 176k miles, the GA (like ANY car of that age) will have many worn components and will need ongoing maintenance and repair, to keep it going.
If you have to choose, go for the car in the best overall condition, with the best maintenance record.
