Hi everyone,
I'm building a Tamiya (Michele Mouton's) audi quattro right as it has appeared in San Remo 1983. I've decided to make my own decals, tires and rims for asphalt (not very easy:)), (this is the only rally in 1983 i saw the five spoke rims for asphalt, as later used in 1984).
I found out that specific pictures form this rally are very rare, ecpessially pictures of the side sticker on the doors and the sticker on the back left side window, there are logos and text that i cannot decipher, except the number and the kangaroo of "Australian" brand on the door of the car.
Could someone help me with that? Here is the picture of what i mean (from video)
http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/5427/audi3.th.jpg (http://img695.imageshack.us/i/audi3.jpg/)
My second question is about tires. Do you know if Audi used "full" slick tires for this rally in tarmac stage? (no pictures at all except one that shows the tires aren't "full" slicks. (not sure if the word "full" is correct, but i hope you'll understand what i mean).
Here is the picture of what i mean (i see some relief on the tire)
http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/1831/audig.th.jpg (http://img695.imageshack.us/i/audig.jpg/)
It became quite long post, but i would like the model as accurate as possible
Thank you in advance, hope it didn't bore you.

Unfortunately clicking on the first freeze frame only produces a larger, more blurred image of the one embedded in your post, however:
to make life easier vis a vis the rims, have you looked at what is available from the likes of Renaissance? IIRC they do a set of Audi tarmac rims.
insofar as the "Australian" kangaroo branding, perhaps you could look at the decals in the Totip (?) boxing of Hasegawa's 037.
if you have the tome 'Rally', there is a section devoted to tyres which has a pic of a range of tyres used by Audi Sport in 82 or 83. Their selection covers everything from full slick, cut slick, gravel, ice, mud, in different widths & diameters. I reckon you could get away with just about anything.

Hi, thanks for the fast answer
Now on the details.
1.As you saw the picture is pretty blurred- yes, that is because it is a capture from video-this is the main problem there aren't many pictures and i made this to show which logos i don't see clearly and cannot make without help. This image (if this could be called image)is just for reference.
2. The "australian" kangaroo logo i already found, but there is an inscription right under the big number 8 (Michele Mouton's car has number 8 in this rally) and two more right above the San Remo plate, which don't exist at the Lancia Totoip body.
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/1280/placca20numero20sremoco.th.jpg (http://img42.imageshack.us/i/placca20numero20sremoco.jpg/)
That is why i need a picture of it, the video doesn't work here:(
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/343/photo0284copy.th.jpg (http://img42.imageshack.us/i/photo0284copy.jpg/)
It is agian video but it shows clearer what i need as logos and inscriptions
3. The rims wouldn't be a big problem i have an idea how to make them, and i don't have the "Rally" tome, unfortunate, but i thiink the rims were 10J-15". The tires will be also made from scratch. If you have it i would be grateful to have it scanned.
Thank's a lot in advance once again.
I'm from Bulgaria by the way:)

Are you also aware Michele was driving the A2 in 83 which would mean a bit of work to add the 2 brake cooling inlet ducts in front of the rear wheels either side.
To correct myself, the ref book I referred to should actually be 'Rally Cars', not 'Rally' & the tyres belong to the 1980 Fiat Abarth team, however the same principle would have applied to the Audi team. I knew I should've had another drink...

Hi,
yes i know this:) this is one of the most interesting parts in this project. I could buy the Rennaissance transkit, but i'm not going to, (not because of the money, but because of the thrill to make my own inlets :evillol: and wheel arches which are bigger than those in Tamiya kit which is a Group 4 car). That is what "modelling" stands for:).
Those inlets wouldn't be so hard, actually-there are pictures for references. By the way have you seen that in RAC rally in 1983 (and some others) the lower inlet of both is kind of closed (like they just covered the place left bigger from the A1 version and opened a new one upper...).
Here is some picture, not blurred this time:), just as an interesting detail of the mentioned inlets with lower part (closed somehow..)
http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/1962/mouton1983rac.th.jpg (http://img683.imageshack.us/i/mouton1983rac.jpg/)
I figured out that you mean the "Rally Cars" book but i haven't this.
So, please find some picture or infomration in your archives...and the model wouldn't dissapoint anyone, part of the "modelling society", this i promise:smooch:.
Once again thanks a lot for your kind anxiety and answers, this is very helpfull and motivating.

If it doesn't hurry to much (I'm on hollyday next week), I'll try to find some more informations in my books and magazines or on my videos on hard drive, as I collect Michèle Mouton's cars I've also collected dozens of references...

Hi Phil,
I'm not in a hurry.
The fact that you collected dozens of references of Michele Mouton's cars sounds to me quite encouraging. I'll wait for you information.
Have a nice holiday next week.
Thank you
Vitan

Hi Vitan,
I already took a quick loonk at my videos on my hard drives, but it's impossible to say what is written on the few I have from the 83 SR...
I have better hope from magazines and books, and will have time to look at them next tuesday or wednesday.
