Welcome to AF!
What are you looking for in this car? A track car, a daily driver? Is the car turbo? 1200 sounds like a pretty good deal if the car is in good shape and has been taken care of mechanically. Dropping in a new motor would be a good idea but the motor could be in good shape still. Post some pics if you can otherwise its pretty much your call. These are good car if taken care of and can be made pretty fast pretty cheap compared to a lot of other cars.

I was just reading your motor swap artical. Its pretty beat up but i can do body work and i can swap or rebuild the current motor. Its not turbo i dont think i will probly get it and rebuild the engine in it. Whats something like that going to cost? I can pull it our and put new parts in it but ill have to drop it off at the machine shop and let them do the work. I want a daily driver thats also fast.

If the car is in pretty bad shape, also has higher mileage. I would offer 1000 at the most. No disrespect to the owner but 1200 sounds a bit steep for a spanked car.

+1.
If it was turbo, it would be a whole different ball game.

Parts Dinasore has plenty of good rebuild kits for the 420a motor. I ordered a few things from him when I did mine.

Same as in any other car, motor mounts and its out minus all the extra electrical/mechanical connections.

First thing I would do if you get the car is pick up a Chiltons or Haynes repair manual. There is a bundle of information in those books.
As far as pulling the motor, it's not hard at all. Just make sure you follow all the correct steps and you should be good to go. The hardest part is getting it to line back up with the tranny when you're putting it back together.

It's quite involved to turbo the 420A, but a lot of guys do it. A handful of guys on here have done it and I'm sure they may even chime in with some words of wisdom.

Its not hard just expensive. Expect to put 1.5-2k into a good kit that you put together yourself. If you buy a kit its around 3k. You can run ab 7-8psi on the stock bottom end and be fine anymore then that and you have to build the motor which will cost even more. So its really up to you what your goal are and if you want to put this much money in the car

Well i have a car to drive every day and i want to turbo this talon. I want to rebuild the motor first anyways and then buy the turbo kit. Just gonna be a project cause ill just buy the parts when i get the money.

if you wanna run more than 7-8 psi boost i would recommend upgrading the motor and not just rebuilding.
Silvr- How much hp do you think is possible at 8psi? Like VW 2.0t levls?

by upgrading do you mean getting a diffrient motor or just bore the 420a out?

Bore AND build. Keep the same motor, but replace the internals with stronger ones. Pistons, rods, etc.

about 200-215whp seems to be the average.
