wipers staying up.

hello all. after last nights snow my windshield wipers are deciding to act up.
when you turn your wipers on, with the delay, they swipe then come back down, but not all the way down. they dont go all the way down until you shut them off. well instead of going all the way down, mine are going all the way up when i shut them off. they stay down in place when theyre on with the delay, but once i turn the switch off, they go all the way back up, to the top of the "sweep" they make.....

what in the HELL could cause this?

most common reason for this happening is turning on the wipers with heavy snow on the windshield, or wipers being froze to the windshield. always be sure to free up your wipers before turning them on in the cold months

no problem man. i tried this on my SE not long ago...and for some reason did not fix my problem. i ended up just replacing the whole wiper motor assy.

ok guys, one more question.... lets say that metal tab finally breaks off, what is the name of the part that needs to be replaced?? ive come to figure out it is not the wiper motor itself....
gmpartsdirect.com lists a few different parts... is it the "wiper transmission"?? or the "frame"??? maybe its the "wiper arm" but i really doubt that one....

any suggestions please??

Just when I thought I've seen everything. On my 97, occasionally in Winter when I get ice build up in and around the wiper assembly, my wipers go crazy, they wipe off the edge of the car and on relay they stay straight up. However, when I get all the ice out and it thaws out (sometimes I use a hairdryer), they return to normal and work absolutely flawlessly. Beats the heck outta me...

that part is called the wiper trans support. GM part number 12368639. That part number is the bracket only, and does not include the wiper motor (88958395) or transmission (12336025).
