s-10 won't reverse

any suggestions on why my s-10 v6 won't reverse and on a straightaway would go quite slow?

What year and what engien?

Is it a standard or auto transmission.

If std traqnsmission clutch could be slipping if engine speeds up in gear and and no go.

...thanks! i'll post more info later; in the meantime here's what i do know off the back of my head: 1997 S-10 V6 4.3 2WD AT ...I'm able to drive it around the block but really at a slow pace and a high-sounding/revving sound and of course my original concern - no reverse.

No reverse and slipping in forward gears is not good.

If auto transmission check and confirm fluid level engine hot in park.

How is fluid condition and transmissiomn filter?

If full of fluid and filter is OK and no reverse on a automatic transmission it is time for another transmission or a rebuild.

This sounds like a sunshell failure, no reverse and only gears 1 and 3 work. If its starts off normally, but when it shifts if it revs up a lot and shifts up to next gear and thats it and no reverse, its the sunshell.
