89 4X4 problem no 4X4

I have an electronic cylinoid that is supposed to make th front wheels lock in how do I test it to see if it works I took it out and put power to it from battery but it didnt do anything does anyone know how to explain using a multi meter to test I have one just dont have a clue what to look for or how use it right

not sure on your model year but if you put power to it and it does not move it is probably bad. you could measure the resistance of the input terminals should read a few ohms..

also put in 4wd and see if you have a voltage at those leads..

Does it have the 2 wire solenoid?
