HELP when did your clutch go out?

Ahhh damnit damnit damnit..my clutch went out yesterday. At 83,000 miles..just wondering, when did everybody else's go out? Ahh I just ordered a turbo timer & harness too..Also I really don't wanna pay 700 bucks to get it fixed..I'm just wondering exactly how difficult it is to put in a new clutch..I pretty much only know the basics, mechanically-speaking..like how to change the intake filter, change brake pads..that kinda stuff..thanks.

If the only thing you know how to do it is basic tune up stuff, you are getting in waaaaaaaaaaaaay over your head trying to pull your tranny. Spend the money and have a professional do it right. Trust me.

i think my car has the origional clutch, and it has about 130k
but i baby it so that may have made a slight difference.
as for if you shoud replace your own clutch? ah don't, its difficult and a mistake could be costly.

uh...if thats the limit of ur "expertise" (not mocking) then TAKE IT TO A PROFESSIONAL OR FRIEND WHO KNOWS CARS. ur gonna find a lot more trouble than good in trying urself.

Nah I never said I was going to put it in ALL by myself I know some people who've done it before, but they've only done it on like rwd cars..I'm just wondering, since it's an awd, if it's gonna be that much more difficult...but yeah I know people who can help me out.

its pretty easy, i think it was 5 bolts on transfer case, that pulls right off, slide if off the drive shaft and move it aside, 3 bolts holding the tranny to engine and just a bunch of electrical connecters. oh yeah, shift links too. probably take you and your buddies 6 hours from start to finish. IMPORTANT: read torque specs and i suggest using thread lock. its not as hard as it looks.

If you're going to do this,get a spare flywheel to have turned before you even take the tranny off. Otherwise you'll be doing the tranny job in roughly 1 minute after re-assembly. Get a manual & read it a few hundred times to associate yourself with the car. Good luck!

My clutch just went out 3 weeks ago...it was on 74,000 :(

ahhh well I tried to replace it yesterday with some help from a friend who's replaced his clutch before...heh failed. It's just too much work..I'm just going to pay to have it installed. I talked with the main mechanic here on base, he said a mitsubishi is like a mechanic's nightmare since they make everything so hm 'unfriendly' with stuff like the clutch...yea once we found out we had to take the struts off just to get the transaxle off, we just put everything back on..btw, is there even anybody here who's put their own clutch in???

I've done several clutches on 1g/2g T/E/L. It's not to difficult if you can follow the instructions in your manual. It will probably take you 8-24 hours your first time. All depending on well the car comes apart & goes back together. You don't have to take the struts out, remove the lower two bolts on your strut & swing the hub away, the axles will pop out with an axle puller.
