which holley carb?

i am looking for a new carb for my 350 chevy and have it pretty much picked out but now i found another one that ive havent seen before.

i have been looking for a 650 holley double pumper to rebuild and have decided on a square bore which led me to a 4777 carb.

ive read good reviews on them and almost got one but then i saw a 80777 which is also a 650 square bore dp but ive not been able to find much about it.

although it seems the 80777 carb uses parts from both newer and older 4777 carbs

does anyone know if the 80777 is as good as the 4777? as far as a strip/street carb

Ditch the holley and buy an Edelbrock if you want a street carb real easy to tune.Holleys are a real pain to set up and everything has to be changed.Holleys are only good for racing applications only and the worst street carbs.Had one on my mother's 1966 Chevy Nova II and replaced it with an Edelbrock which runs a lot better.Another problem with a Holley is they flood out and I heard about it a lot.I even heard a guy say he was going throw a holley on the floor once after he had problems with on a 1970s Chevy truck he owns.Runs a lot better with an Edelbrock starting with the first start with the key.

well i have a 600 edelbrock now and its just not much of a strip carb. i just havent been very impressed and the thing has had flooding issues twice now and ive only had it for 4000 miles. i borrowed a holley 750 and ran almost half a second faster but it was way too much carb. this will be a good in between.

c'mon guys, call me old school, but I'd say a finely tuned quadrajet....

But agree, would rather have an edelbrock over a holly.
