I have a 2000 toyota tacoma SR5 2.7L I want to put the toyota 3.4L into my truck. Can I use the transmission thats in my truck now? its a 5 speed with 4x4. I know the V6 was an option this year. But I don't know if the transmissions are different.

The 2.7 4 cyl uses a W59 trans while the 3.4L 6 cyl uses R150F-C .

:disappoinAre the bell housing's different? will this work or would I have to go out and buy a new tranny? or just change my bell housing? I am exploring my options, I want more power. I only have a 3 inch lift with 31-10.5-15 mud tires and I find myself downshifting for all the hills. Any good performance mods I could do?

The answer is obviuosly.... yes. If it won't be the bell housing... the clutch clearance, shaft diameter, the ability the tranny to handle the extra power... Relpace the tranny, it'll save you alot of heart ache.

one more thing... since you have bigger tires on your rig, have you considered putting bigger gears in your rear end? that should solve you issues all around, four banger or not...

Regearing would help, but it's hardly worth spending $800-1000 to regear for 31's. It's barely worth it for 33's.

Neither is getting a reman engine for about 1000 or 1500 nor a reman trans for 1000 to 1500 bucks. Regearing is easier and cheaper. Unless you have so much spare time to reman them yourself... I work in a shop and i barely have time to work on my own rigs. Its up to you man.

Don't forget the engine wiring, sensors, vacuum system, ecu... you'll probably need to get a wrecked truck to do it right. converting a 22r to 22re is tough enough...

thats a really good motor you have. i think your getting in way over your head with doing an entire swap. i would just drop some 4.88 gears in your truck. you will totally notice the difference compared to the 4.10s. doing the motor swap is going to require a lot of wiring, new motor mounts, the tranny mounts aren't gunna line up either. your gunna need to re-do your drivelines more than likely. its gunna add up fast. just re-gear your diffs. the 3rz is great.

Thank you...
