I drive on a lot of washboard and gravel. North Ontario is not turnpike country.
:smooch:I wonder if I changed from 17 to 16 wheels and upped the tires from low profile to taller, would that improve the ride?, and would it hurt the tranny or gear box? I thing the diametre might be approximately the same.

The trans and diffs will be okay as long as you keep all four outside diameters of the tires the same as each other. (and as long as you don't get stuck and spin your wheels a lot.) If the tire diameters are different from OEM, your speedo will be off, but that won't affect operation.

It wouldn't hurt. There are online tire size calculators, you can do it yourself. Example: 215/70/16 a/b/c a*b where b is a percentage *2/25.4+c so 215*.7=150.5 150.5*2=301 301/25.4=11.85 11.85+17=28.85 which would mean the total height of the example tire and wheel is 28.85" keep within 1/2" of your stock tire size and you should be fine.
