Don't hammer on the distributor!
They have an off set key, so it will only go in when the rotor is facing the correct way.
If you get it lined up right, it will just slide in gently.

Push the distributor into the hole gently. When you feel the distributor shaft touch the end of the camshaft, rotate the distributor shaft slowly. When it reaches the right position, the distributor should slide in the rest of the way.
