check engine on a full tank

The check engine light comes on in my 98 Rodeo every so often. It happens when I reach around 60mph after I fill up the tank completely. I keep thinking that I did not tighten the cap enough so I've been resetting the check engine light and ignoring this for... well, ok for years.
It seems to be happening more often lately and the last time I really made a point of tightening the gas cap through several "clicks" after filling up. The code is 1441. It does not quite sound like the fuel sending unit that others are having issues with. Any ideas? Can I continue to happily ignore it or an I doing damage to my Rodeo?

Fuel vapors are going into Air!
Because of age, I would suspect a bad rubber hose, seal, gasket, or cap.

A common replacement for that vehicle is a fuel pump sending unit assy

Thanks for the responses. I'll stop ignoring it and get it checked out.

check the codes and see why the CEL is coming on, then report back.

My mechanic says the problem is a canister purge solenoid staying open. Will cost upwards of $300 to fix. Now that I know the problem I see that others on this board have had the same issue. Thanks again for your help.
