1995 4.3 TBI Throttle sticking

Throttle is sticking, engine idles at 2000 rpm, removed air cleaner and verified that throttle cable was taut and not allowing throttle butterflies to close to idle position. Opened and closed throttle several times manually and suddenly throttle cable had slack in it and throttle again worked normally. My son just called to tell me that the throttle is sticking again. Anybody run across this before? Do the throttle cables go bad on these things?

I've never seen a problem with a throttle cables on these vehicles, but from your findings, it sounds like something is binding. Check the mechanism and the cable where it connects to the pedal under the dash. Also check the carpet next to the pedal on the transmission tunnel, (hump), I have seen the carpet, or floor mat, cause a problem there.

Hi, check the throttle body bore for carbon build-up; on my 97 the gas pedal felt sticky off idle; you push a little and would not move, push harder and the throttle finally moved but vehicle lunges a bit. When looking at the throttle plate / throttle body you could see a slight ridge of carbon residue which bound up the throttle plate until the edge of it went past the ridge. A little carb cleaner on a rag took care of it. While you are there you can check the return spring, cable connector, etc and lightly oil too. Good luck
