Noise from hitch under trailer

When I put on hitch on my 2002 ezt tb, even if it sits all the way inside and the spring pushes the rod against the fixing bolt, it still shakes a few millimiters around. This doesn't effect safety, I hope, it just makes a boring noise during travelling especially with light trailers. Suggestions??

Mine does the same thing, it makes noise when driving over bumps no load on the hitch, normal.

Funny, other cars don't do it at all, this is so loud. This hitch is made by a drunk engineer then I guess. I'll turn stereo up!! :smooch:

Different trailers take different ball diameters. The diameter is stamped on top of the ball. Look at your trailer manual for required size.
Check bolts for tightness at the frame and the hitch ball nut.

Yes it can drive a person nuts.
If so do something to fix it.
If in the tubing where it fits into reciever weld it up a little on sides with a select fit.
If in the pin install a large pin tkat fits tight.
If in the ball and trailer hitch check ball for proper fit and hitch for and hitch for adjustment.
Sometimes driving a shim into where the loseness is helps.

The ball size is fine, it's the hitch itself that shakes into his seat on the car. I live in Italy, our hitches usually are really tight or bolted to the car, this is really weird. It "snaps" inside but it is not fix. Does exist an external thing to hold it better? I have seen somewhere a square tube cut with a bolt that works as a vice between hitch & car... never seen?

In the end, I drill and tap a vertical hole in the square tube holding the hitch. When I install it I also tight a bolt with a counter-nut to hold the hitch down and no noise anymore!! Cheap and quick.

You also could have wrapped the hitch end with duct tape so that it fit snugly into the receiver. Hitch makers frown upon any modifications to their equipment for fear you might weaken it in the wrong place. Offhand, it doesn't sound like you drilled into a critical spot, but please beware of the fact and tow safely.

Right, even I was afraid to drill in a weak place but I tell you it is not. It is such a tick steel, it won't break. It doesn't really work where I put this bolt, it's right at the end of the receiver.
By the way, it's a modification and if something goes wrong, it wouldn't be nice!
