golf gti 8v missfires

hi everyone...i have a 96 gti all seems well till i drive it hard...instead of the rev limiter coming in at 6k rpm its cutting i at 5k just like the rev limiter..Ive changed the dizzy and cap plugs and leads.ive even changed the clocks thinking it could be a fault in there...anyone any more ideas please...starting to get me down and thinking of selling...:disappoin :moppie:

its might be your coil pack ,it sits against your firewall on the drivers side. does this happen in the its damp/raining? with the car running, lightly spray a mist water on the coilpack . if it sparks its no good. GermanAutoParts.com has them.
