My son has a 96 s-10 4cyl. 2.2 5 speed. we've replaced the ignition switch, but it won't start. Kinda feels like it isn't turning far enough to crank it. The lock cylinder sticks really bad turning it off and on also. Is it possible to put the lock cylinder in upside down? He just bought this truck and we're trying to help him fix it up. If anyone out there can give me decent instruction on how to remove the lock, it would be VERY helpful. Thanks.

Tilt or no tilt wheel?
No it can not be put in upside down.
Is the key worn bad?
I would try some lubericate in where the ign key goes first and another key if you have one.
If that does not help remove ign tumber/key and see if you can turn ign switch with a screw driver without any binding.
The column cover has to be removed to get to the ign key tumbler.
Some the steering wheel and air bag has to be removed to get cover off.
It is usually held in by a lock pin.
If it is binding in the ign switch itself it is a hard job to replace the ign switch.
Better get a factory repair manual or a All data sub to do that.

no tilt , but i already have the ignition switch out, i can put the key in the switch and turn it and the truck starts. thats the only way to start the truck. If I put it back together all the power comes on, but it wont crank when i put the key in the lock cylinder. Are there some gears in there that can get out of sync? It was like this when my son bought it. It just doesn't really make sense to me, seems like its gonna end up being something simple that makes you feel stupid for not seeing it sooner.

The ign switch gears need to be timed right.
For the proper procedure on that,
I would suggest a factory repair manual or the ALL DATA ONLINE SUB.
