how do i remove a shifter cable

the shifter cable for my 95 pontiac grand am is overstretched and needs to be replaced. i cannot change gears because the shifter just wiggles. it is a manual trans, 6 cyl. also, i have found a shifter cable at a junk yard from a 95 grand am, manual trans. 4 cyl, will it work for my car.

welcome to forum, did you try adjusting the cable. Look under the hood at the cable you should see locking button, there you can make some adjustments I believe.

You sure about the V6 manual trans ?
Ive not seen any but 94 and under :confused: Guess someone could have swapped it.
Any how as 3100 stated thiers a lever on top of the trany that releases the cable, I do not think they are ajustable.
They should be auto adjusting, if its realy lose, probly needs replaced.
