Id tag is on back of transfer case.

Does it have the auto 4W button on dash or just reg 4W?

With no Auto 4W button you have a 233.
They call for DEX111 wich is no longer being made.
Dexron/mercon can be found at Carquest.

To be sure Check with your gm dealer for replacement fluid.

If it does not call for it do not use it.

Check with your GM parts dealer for the lastest fluid replacement.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of changing my transfer case fluid in the next few days. Is it difficult? I've never really messed with a TC before. Does it drain through a plug like your motor oil?

Transfer case have a lower drain plug for draining amd a upper plug for filling and checking fluid level. But make sure you use the right fluid called for on your transfer case.

The newer auto 4W transfer case uses special GM fluid and some call for a flush when changing.
Drain and fill and drive and then drain and refill again.
Post back what transfer case you have and year and truck you have.

Thanks MT. I just crawled in there and it has a tag that says 233. I think I saw the bolts, are they allen wrench type bolts? Btw truck is a 98 Blazer 4x4 LT vin code W. I tried to see if it mentioned anything about what fluid to use. Should I use the one you mentioned earlier in this thread?

Check with your gm parts dealer they may have a GM transmission manual gear fluid for it.
Do not use the GM new dex 6 fluid in manual gear boxes.
For dexron 111 applacations I have been using the carquest mercon/dexron treansmission fluid.
