2004 Taurus with bralke issues

My daughter has a 2004 Taurus and the rear brake on the passenger side will not bleed (always blows air and fluid). The drivers side will bleed but the cylinder keeps coming apart from pressure. I tried bleeding the front and they will not bleed either. Can this be the protportioning valve or the booster? Any suggestions?

When you say the fronts will not bleed either, are you suggesting you are getting air and fluid all the time, or are you getting nothing from them? How far are you opening the bleeder screws, and how are you bleeding them (Suction bleed, 2-person, speed bleeder screws, etc.)? Since you mention a cylinder coming apart, I suspect you are peforming a 2-person bleed. Has the team bled brakes before so the person pressing the pedal is announcing when they are nearing the floor and the person at the bleeder screw is closing the bleeder and ensuring the bleeder is closed before the brake pedal is released?

On the driver's rear are you saying the wheel cylinder is coming apart? Why don't you have the brakes assembled and the drums installed to prevent the cylinder from coming apart? Have you tried removing the bleeder screw to see if you still have issues with the wheel cylinder coming apart? With the bleeder out basically no fluid should make it to the wheel cylinder (path of least resistance).

Yes my father and I have done this numerous times. He announces when he is holding and at the floor. The front has nothing coming out. We removed the bleeder and pumped the brakes and you do get a little fluid but not a constant stream as you would expect. I am turning the bleeder screw 3/4 turn.
Back drivers, the drum was on and the brake put together. This even had the tire on while we were trying to bleed the passenger side. It bleeds extremely well with a steady stream coming out the bleeder when opened. The passenger side will only spit fluid and air.

Interesting. I don't recall reading about others having this issue. A 2004 seems pretty new to have faulty brake hoses or so much contamination in the system that it would plug passages.

Does this Taurus by chance have traction control or AdvanceTrac? I've bled my 2004 Mountaineer with no issue, but it doesn't have traction control or AdvanceTrac. Since those systems have the potential to apply individual brakes, maybe they require an interface with the computer to be able to properly bleed the brake system as well. I wouldn't expect a proportioning valve or ABS pump to cause the issues you are experiencing.

Please check this thread and let me know what you think, they had almost the same issues we are experiencing

One major difference though is that my daughter's car has drums in the back and not calipers, seems weird that a 99 would have the same proportioning valve and spring acuator with calipers that her has with drums. I looked in the Haines manual and it shows her proportioning valve and all. It looks just like he is describing in awbazar's second post. Her valve looks just like what is described in Vesgo's post about cross feeding and dual valves. We removed the line going to the passenger's tire and pumped the brakes. we got a little fluid. Once person here at work says he had a similar issue and was corrected by changing the master cylinder???
