Ok so on the way home from work I decide to take the back road home to AVOID traffic. Well I look in my rearview and there are these two dirty looking guys in a 80's trans am. They are yelling and carrying on and then goto to pass me, when they are even with me, I downshift and they couldn't pull any on me. There were cars coming in the opposite lane so I slow and let them pull ahead. I know the people around here and the typical thinking of these types. Well finally we get to the point where it is two lanes, he pulls right and floors it (obvious from the huge puff of black smoke from the bareley hanging tailpipes) Anyways to make a long story short, I stayed on his ass and changed lanes and pulled about a car and he shut down and stayed back from me. Guess he was embarassed or something. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of respect for the domestics too, just not the close minded assholes who thing anything V8 is unbeatable (that goes for the idiot "stock" imports as well). Shit sometimes I cruise with a buddy thats got a camaro SS, supercharged with a 100 shot! That thing is a beast.

So are you trying to say that you have a b16a intake manifold bolted to a GSR head?

The hp on the camaro, I'm not even sure it has ever seen a dyno. He claims his best without the sc was 10.85 but I couldn't verify that. As for the smart ass, no disrespect, but maybe you should know what you are talking about before you flame. The manifold is connected by an adapter plate, we made ours, you might be able to buy them but I dont know. The manifold that came with the head was cracked in shipping so we had no choice/funds but to make my old 1st gen b16a to fit. And like i said, it is restrictive as hell but I'm still waiting before i dish out 400-600 bucks on a good one. Click the link at the bottom and tell me thats not a b16a1 im on a gsr head, if you need to know how i did it for some sort of self gratification, let me know.

For one, that picture doesn't clarify anything...you can't tell what head that is. For two, you know someone who is skilled enough to fabricate a custom adapter to make a b16a1 manifold fit on a GSR head, but they can't patch a crack in a manifold?

Oh yeah, one last thing, the B16a1 manifold is a better manifold than the GSR manifold despite the variable runner length in the GSR manifold.

Some of the older Cameros had a 305 which was a dog and not the 357 that can get that car moving. My wife used to have one and it just did not represent the brute power those cars should be known for.

My friend used to have a 87 iroc so I know what you mean. What a torquey little bastard that was. I had a 88 rs at some point but 2.8 v6=a horribly slow car, i still like the 80's gen camaros. As for the intake manifold issue, for one, it wasn't a simple crack. One of the runners was cracked all the way around, I could of welded it but I would have been a hassle and require a bit more welding experience then i have. I don't know which manifold is better, but if the b16a is so good, then why the design difference just of curosity. The adapter plate was no big trick at all, my uncle and I put it together although it took a good five hours. All it required was a piece of alum., die grinder, drill with bits and taps, and a mr. gasket sheet. Personally I dont care, it does the job for now and I am in no hurry to get a new one. We all know it isn't going to be good for more than a couple horses. But I would like to know your opinion on why one is better than the other and the gsr was made different than the b16a, ba6a, and b18c5...

Yeah, and with all the boost you're running you might of blown the welds on your manifold!!!
GO F&F!
sorry I had to say it... suprised nobody else saw that opening!:D

Well that must mean that you don't really have any welding experience at all. Welding a crack is very simple although it wouldn't look pretty which is obviously of importance to you.

That should be the proof right there. The same type of manifold as the B16a manifold is used in the ITR and CTR motor. That should tell you which one is a better design. The variable length runner was made to try to improve low end and midrange power. The head was designed with it which is why it has a different bolt pattern in the first place. The manifold design didn't show much improvement really and the main reason why the B18c1 makes 10 hp and 17 ft/lbs of torque over the B16a1 is the displacement difference.

Making an adapter plate isn't too complicated at all...but doing that causes the injectors to be out of their normal position which can cause some serious fueling issues, which are further made bad because you have a turbo car. In terms of only getting a few hp from an aftermarket manifold, this might be true in a naturally aspirated car, but in a turbo car there are far higher gains.

Yeah and do you think if I tuned nos down, I could runs 9s. Please lets not even touch the horse crap from that movie.
And to inferno, thanks for the insight. Alot of that I didn't know, and I hadn't even thought twice about the injectors. Maybe that's why I seem to often lean out at around 6500 rpm. Is there any specific brand you think would be good my application. Maybe I'll do that right after I replace the axles.
As for the welding thing, talk about no skill. You should see where I removed the cat. I had to go over it three times. Good thing its under the car.

Nope it was definatley a trans am. For one it said trans am on the rear, and two I didn't kill it. It put up a good fight. He slowed alot when he went around the corner where the lanes split. I went down to first and he gunned it (lots of smoke and screeching tires) he started to pull until i went to second and then I started to slowly pull on him then. I used to have the equivelent to a firebird and they are a dog. I've seen 5-speed neons beat out firebirds and RS's. If I barley beat a V6 firebird after having a $4000 swap and a $3000 turbo kit, I'd just as well torch the car and take the insurance..

I love hearing stories of close minded V8s having their ass handed to them by there most hated nemisis........a 4 banger!!!! My car is not that terribly fast but it is fast enough to shutup any posers, V8 or 4 banger so I have plenty of stories like this one also, it never ends.
