Nice start!

The biggest problem of this V-max kit is small engine. It's sort of nonsense.

The others are not such a big problem.

Is it that big of a difference to the1:1 kit? Does that count for all the v-max kits from Aoshima or are there some that's better?

I'd say you'd better do something...perhaps get another kit if there is one with larger engine. That massive engine block is one of the most evil looking things with the V-Max, know it almost looks like a Virago...

I have no idea how improve it.

Of course. I think they are all from the same mold and no model has bigger engine.

I was disappointed with the engine very much when I finished this model.

I thought much about this problem and still think the engine is slightly small.

However,

I added some wiring and dark area on the above picture by photoshop. :naughty:

Compare this picture with the above picture.

I think the engine looks smaller than it really is, because of the optical illusion.

I think you can improve it by enlarging this part of the engine and fill the space over the engine by adding wirings or something else.

I made some quick Photoshop wizardy to those two photos! The red lines are from YoungGun's original model, and the green lines are from the real thing. Hope you can get something out of it! To my eyes the model is looking almost the same as the real one! The engine is just correctly sized, and also the frame between engine and the seat. As YongGun stated, there is a difference under the frame, where there are some tubing in the real one, which prevents that see-through that is visible on the model.
The seat seems to be little too long, mainly the passenger seat.

One of the ways to solve the 'gap' problem would be to consult the original Yamaha service manual and get reliable information about the bike from there. It will also provide lots of wiring and detailing information.

Every time I need such a manual I check this page: http://blackbears.ru/index_en.php?get=manual

It seems they also have the one you need. :)

That radiator assembly looks well detailed, are those mesh intakes from the kit? Looks sweet to be Aoshima...
