Fuel Cell Collectors

I just got a new fuel cell bladder from fuel safe. Its the pro cell (Unlike the sportsman that came with the GTS). The pre-installed fuel pickup is just a hose with a sq. fabric filter on the end jambed into the passenger rear corner.

The sportsman bladder had a plastic collector with ball check valves installed in the center back of the cell.

What gives? Should I take the collector from the old bladder and make it work in the new one or go with the pickup the factory installed?

factory std. pickup:

collector:

since the collector is $150 bucks and the std. pickup is about $50 I would think the collector is an upgrade?

You are correct the box with the check valves is an up grade and you want it in your new fuel cell.

You need to install the collector in the front of the cell in the middle. This is to fill it under hard braking and the middle for side to side fill. Cut the foam to hold it in place. The return hose should be way below the fuel level on the bottom and NOT into the collector. This will prevent static electricty and keep the fuel cool and prevent vapor lock. I had to redo mine since I did it wrong the first time.

well....I dont have a return line (only fuel injected cars have returns) and I already installled it in the middle back. Figure it would fill under acceleration....thats where they were in the old cells for 9 years and never had a problem. thanks for the input.

Brian,

I need to replace mine as well.
Were you able to remove and install the bladder without removing body panels ?

Since you have it already installed it doesn't matter much but, Jim's right, you have more forward transfer under (hard) braking than under acceleration giving you the best chance to load the collection box.

I removed the entire fuel can and had to loosen body panels and with two people pry the roof panel up and remove the can simultaneously. It was not that difficult. The biggest PITA was dealing with the metal straps and getting them in the can slots without scratching all the nice new paint :naughty:
