2001 Ford Focus zx3 luggage compartment does not open

My remote on my key....and the trunk release in the car on the dash does not open the luggage compartment either....Ford says they have no idea what's wrong, but we could start looking at $119 plus....plus the cost to fix it.....could it be just a fuse, considering my rear defroster quit working around the same time . What I can't understand from Ford is ....Is this the first time in these vehicles that this has happened too....I think not:runaround:

Some focus and trunk handles and or latches have had problems with body - corrosion building up around the mouldings in those areas , a good cleaning and a possible parts replacement of the handle and or latch may be required , can you enter from the back seat and pull the child safety cord or handle ?

My car is a Focus ZX3 a hatchback, does not have the child safety cord, never has, my wife's sedan does have a safety cord.....the key chain remote does not open the hatch...nor does the button inside the car on the front dash open it...it was fine one day....the next not....theonly way into the hatch is to use the car key.....thanks for trying to help

Check the wiring under the rubber that runs from the body to the hatch. The wires are broken. Splice them back together. Happened to my wagon.
