I'd like to know which code reader would work with a 93 lesabre - the Tech 1 or Tech 2? I'd like to get something professional like that. Based on the prices I have seen on ebay, i am hoping it takes the Tech 1.

Either will work provided you have the right software and interface. The default interface with the Tech 1 will work out of the box. However, you need the Mass Storage Cartridge to get most of the software you need. It will be very hard to find the cartridges if they don't come with the Tech 1 you buy (Hint: don't buy one unless it has virtually ALL the cartridges you want, and especially if it has the Mass Storage Cartridge.)

Now, the Tech 2 will be infinitely more useable over the long haul and will service modern cars whereas the Tech 1 goes up to around 1996.

I have a Tech 1. I am still learning how to use it. It is hard to find instructional material. I finally found some.

Good luck.

For simple code reading you can use a paperclip on A and B of your underdash ALDL data hookup. With key off, hook up paperclip, then turn key to "on" and watch the flashing lights on the Service Engine Soon light. The first code 12 means the system is working. The other codes if stored will flash next. You'll see what I mean. After it repeats back to 12 you have all the codes stored.

AUTOXRAY EZ-Scan 3000 should read OBD1 codes and some other data as well. Be sue you get it with the GM interface cable. Works on my '95 Saturn.
