Bad Weather

I woke up this morning to find our tiny town under a thick blanket of fog, with extremely limited visibility. It just got me to wondering, what's the worst weather you've ever driven in?

For me, it would have to be a flood back home about 4 years ago. I was driving out to my grandparent's place (out in the boon docks) in the middle of a storm, and didn't realize that there was close to 3' of standing water across the road on the other side of the hill. Oops. Needless to say, it made the evening interesting, especially since I had just started driving. :)

Well back in 95 when some seriouse storms hit the US my parents were up in Lake Tahoe driving in to town when an avalanche buried half the minivan. They were some of the people that were diging out the other cars that were caught in the avalanche. Around 20 cars were caught under a very thick layer of snow.

My Father said he had heard a low rumble like some one playing a bassy song when all of the suden bam the mini van was rocked big time! He said it was weird walking on top of the snow knowing there were people trapped under & you could hear them honking there horns for people to get to them! My father saved arounf 3-4 families many people were diging franticly!:o

I live in Wichita, KS, probably one of the more stormy places on this whole freakin' planet. Anyway, I'm driving down I-235 on the way home one night, and lightning strikes a street light not more than 60 feet from me, and the whole highway went dark. I already could only barely see from all the rain in the first place, and now its pitch black save my headlights.

Reminds me, my girlfriend's car got struck by lightning as she was driving down the high way with her parents about 50 miles north of Wichita, totally killed the computer, melted the antenna and blew out some of the tires, hehe.

the thing about avalanches is if you get trapped under one you never know which way is up..... so if you start digging towards your head, what you think is up, you may be digging straight down.
Did it roll the car?

Worse weather was about 6 years ago when we went to a wedding out of town. It pissed down for hours and hours and we couldnt get back home because of floods.
Never seen anything like it before. All the hills looked like waterfalls as there was so much water around.
We got half way home but the road was that far under water it looked like a big lake.

If I answer this question, I'll be showing my age. :D

So, let's just say that I'm here in North Dakota, and in case anyone hasn't heard, we just had about a ton of snow dump on us over the course of a few hours!! Kinda sucked, really, because it just seems like everyone drives stupid when the snow falls.

holy!! -150 wind chill, that's insane!!

i didn't know it could get that cold in chicago :)

You do realize -150 Celsius or Farhenheit, would almost instantly freeze any exposed part. However, you could literally pis an icicle.

Still, unless there's -130 Degrees of Windchill, it's friggin cold!

I would say the worst storm I have been in, was this massive sand storm, while I lived in 29 Palms. Luckily, I was driving my old pulsar, so I didnt have to worry about the paint :)

It sure did put some nice sparkely stuff into my windows :)
