speedo and tach dont work

My 1998 catera speedo and tach dont work I checked all the fuses and cant figure it out does any one know what it could be or how and where to look to fix this problem.. fyi the stereo turns off it the volume get turned up to loud dont know if it has anything to do with it. everything else works. thax
