Factory fogs

I have 85 watt bulbs in my factory fogs. i honestly don't think they do a thing. the beam is to spread out and the not hight enough. It seems like aftermarket ones, even cheap ones would do 200% better in fog. Mine only go like 2 ft. in front of the bumper. Is that just my car or have others noticed this?

People are we forgetting the purpose of fog lights. The key word being FOG where you usually can't see beyond your hood and where you certainly won't be driving at 100km/hr. Fog light are designed to illuminate very low to the ground so that the light is not scattered by the fog thereby blinding you. Try putting your brights on when its foggy and you'll see what I mean. Fog lights will allow you to at least see that you're getting close to a guard rail or that you're going off the road or to illuminate the road lines. Since we don't get much Fog in Toronto ..people pretty much use them for cosmetic...they are useful but only in certain conditions. Hope this helps.

hey Dprotech, a bunch of people on this board were dicussing whether a 55W bulb would blow out if put in the 35W fog. I know you had the piaa ions in for a few months now - how is everything?

thanks

yah, fogs arent suppose to be bright like dat. it should give you enough wide lighting short range. the lense wasnt designed to penetrage a long rage as on some aftermarket driving lights.

im using 55w ion piaas. working okay so far (7th week)

If you want to see farther down the road you need driving lights. I have CATZ XSL (Extra Super Light) driving lights, they were 153$ USD. They are also very bright, not to mention durable, I was involved in a front end wreck (pretty severe, air bags and all that junk) and they were unmarked.

Also these lights have many bulb color choices: Clear, Gold, Hyperwhite, Green, Purple, Rev-Blue, Orange, Yellow Blue (Don't ask, I have no idea what this would look like)

Here is a picture of my car wrecked for reference

MoReace, you are correct. I have the exact same model as you and my factory fogs suck. I would never have known, but I rewired the relay so I could use them with parking lights or high beams. I tried them alone one night and couldn't believe how bad they are. They wouldn't even do anything in fog.

The lenses are kinda sandblasted but I doubt that's the only excuse. I'm looking for something to replace them in the same opening.
