I need to replace my head gasket on a 2000 Grand Prix GT, with a 3.8 engine. Where can I find detailed instructions on how to do this??

Here is about all I have, but it should help you along the way with removing your LIM.

Couple of things...the job gets bigger from the LIM, especially removing the exhaust manifold studs and bolts and the crossover pipe which are bound to be in less-than-pristine condition after nearly 10 years of running around. The coil pack bracket also is attached to the LH bank/1-3-5/front cylinder head. The rocker arms are net-build without any adjustments needed other than to properly torque.

I would pay close attention to cleanliness inside there. Shop vac makes a lot of sense in my thinking.

I knew a guy who could go start to finish on changing heads on a 3800 in 8 hours' time, using air tools for disassembly and torque wrenches for reassembly. The guy was well-practiced and was flying the entire time. Plan for the rest of us mortals to take 2-3 days.

I would also purchase new head bolts, pay attention because there are two lengths, one inside the head and one outside. I believe the head bolts are torqued to plastic yield and should be replaced with new. I would pay attention to the original torque-plus-angle strategy. While you are at it I would install new rocker cover gaskets as well.

Good Point, it may be a good idea to start soaking down your exhaust manifold studs right now. 8 hours seems like a pretty good time! But dont get in a rush. What is the flat rate book time on these?
