Exhaust Heat shield

While installing a new Dynomax S/S cat back exhaust system on my 1999 Suburban K1500 I noticed that the big heat shield running from the muffler past the cats had rusted through in quite a few places. I was surprised to see that it seemed to be welded to the underbody and was not replaceable. Anyone have experience with this situation? If so, what was your remedy?

I would get a piece of heavy galvanized sheet metal and form into the same shape ,,then rivet the metal to carbody using 3/16in s/steel rivets...coat the rivets/underbody, with a mineral based undercoating..
I made one out of diamond plate but that was over kill...
this is not uncommon up in our rust belt after 10 years..
chinese stainless !
grind off old metal shield..
